rx2600 11i V2 reload

I have a rx2600 Itanium system that has a single disk that has gone bad ( fails to initialize ). I tried connecting an external disk to reload the system, but the system fails to even see the external disk? Is this system only capable of being reloaded via an internal disk only?

No.
Check the disk, cables and terminators.

What disk/chassis did you connect?

The external I connected is a SUN external disk. I do not have a HP external available. Do you think the boot time drivers will want to "play ball" with the SUN disk? It recognizes it when it is loaded.

To fully answer your question, I had double checked the connections and it is terminated properly. I guess it is looking for HP drives.

Sounds reasonable.
HP-UX relies on supported drives for booting.

The external disk is working now. It is "auto terminated" and I had a terminator on it. So I took it off and it had no problem seeing it. The system is loading.
