S.O.S !!!

Hi all !
Need help immediatly!
One of my workers had changed permissions and ownership to /usr on Hp-Ux 11.23, after installation of SAP R/3 instance, then everything goes down :(
I cant telnet that host (error : cant open /dev/tty for reading)
I cant su to any user
Cant sudo to any user
Cant passwd and much more
I can only connect as root from remote Xmanager by xterm or work as root in single mode.

What can I do to get the system up?

Thanx.

Re: S.O.S !!!

Difficult situation .... Backups can only solve the issue...
Boot in single user mode and restore the backup..
I don't see any other possible way getting back ur data..

Re: S.O.S !!!

Hi,
If you have other HP-System Just compare the permissions and ownerships and change it respectively.
If Not then :
Use your console and boot the system into single user mode.
Hope you know how to get into single user mode.
ISL>hpux -is
If you know what changes had been made revert back the changes for the /usr.
If not then :
You will have to boot from the recovery cd and mount /usr filesystem and change the permissions and ownerships.

Re: S.O.S !!!

If you have connection to the server you should be able to change the permissions back you should be okay as both chown/chmod are in /sbin

# chown bin:bin /usr
# chmod 555 /usr

Then bring the system up.
Anyone for a Mutiny ?

Re: S.O.S !!!

But onething ... if you any specific software and programs resides or any filesystems mounted under /usr .... those permissions also to be cross verified...

Re: S.O.S !!!

I've made changes to /usr
but I still cant su to any user.
That's what I get when try to do it:

# su igorps
setgroups: Not owner
setgroups: Not owner
su: Unable to initialize group access list

How to fix it?

Re: S.O.S !!!

Check permissions of /usr/bin/su. They should be as follows:

-r-sr-xr-x 1 root bin 24576 Aug 6 1998 su

Re: S.O.S !!!

May be ur terminfo on server side not correct. check terminfo, termcap files.

Use man terminfo for further clarification

Re: S.O.S !!!

It sounds like you may have many permissions problems remaining. You can run 'swverify "*"' to check the permissions (and checksums) of all of the files and directories that are known to swinstall. That could give you a much quicker way to deal with these problems instead of tripping over them one symptom at a time.
