saconfig RAID 5 migration
Dear all,
Have a question about RAID 5 migration,
recently got a new server with HP-UX installed on RAID 0+1 across 2 disks, want to convert the RAID 0+1 to RAID 5. First, I extended original RAID to 4 disks, after this step disk size did not increase. Then did migration to RAID 5, migration has successfully completed , but array size did not change. Now , I have RAID 5 across 4 disks with the array size of only one disk (such a waste of space :-) ).
I wonder if that I was doing is actually possible or not.
Thank you,

Re: saconfig RAID 5 migration
Shalom,
Perhaps you could share with us the steps you use to expand to 4 disk raid.
Normally, you'd have to pvcreate the new disks, vgextend the volume group, things like that.
If you did this with hardware raid, please identify the hardware model and procedure you used.

Re: saconfig RAID 5 migration
What I did was :
saconfig /dev/ciss0 -E 1 -p 0x500... -p 0x500...
... just extended RAID on two more disks,
After this command had completed, Rail level did NOT change, it remained 0+1.
After this I did :
saconfig /dev/ciss0 -M 0 -R 5
This changed RAID Level from 0+1 to RAID 5,
but did not change the size of RAID.
Even after that I tried changing block size - did not help.
The hardware is :
SAS SmartArray P800 RAID Controller
with 5 SAS disks 146GB
Here is actual status:
---------- LOGICAL DRIVE 1 ----------
Device File = /dev/disk/disk1
RAID Level = 5
Size = 139979 MB
Stripe Size = 64 KB
Status = OK
Where size supposed to be 419937 MB
