Im trying to get my hands on the non-CLI way of doing admin tasks by using tools like SAM and SMH but can't find a good document with graphical illustrations of those tools.
Anyone can provide me a link or document on this?
Thanks

SolutionAnything SAM/SMH can do a real admin can do better via command line..
What would you like to do ?? Maybe we can help.
BTW, You are getting really far behind on awarding points. (you never know, a good points giver just might get more responses ;)
Just click on your name to see links to all your previous posts, spend 10 minutes to get caught up..

Re: SAM and SMH
Well actually I just wanna know the comparison between these 2 tools.
Which one is better out of these 2 .. of course CLI is the best SA tool ... no doubt bout that :)
OK ... an example task would be creating NFS. Would you be able to show how to perform NFS in SAM and SMH?
Thanks

Re: SAM and SMH
What version of HPUX are you running, 11.31 ?
As far as an NFS mount if using 11.31.
Assuming you already have a filesystem/directory created that you wish to share with another server.
edit /etc/dfs/dfstab
create an entry like the below to share a directory called /my/directory to server1 and server2 and allow root access from same.
(feel free to modify the access as you deem appropriate for your environment) "man share_nfs" for more info
share -F nfs -o anon=2,access=server1:server2,root=server1:server2 -d "Decscription" /my/directory
execute shareall
As far as showing how in SAM/SMH, just follow the menu options for NFS.

Re: SAM and SMH
As far as NFS creation is concerned,
If you have a 11.31 machine, you can follow these steps
1. Open a web browser and access SMH using https://
2. Once you login, click on "Tools -> File Systems" (Under Disks and file Systems).
3. Click on ">> Add NFS ..."
4. Enter your mount point, remote server, the directory to be mounted and other details.
5. Click on "Preview" if you want to see the "Commands" that will be run in the back-end.
6. Click on New NFS to have your mount ready or to see the result.
I hope this will be helpful. I will upload the images of the steps that I just mentioned, if you need it.
