SAM erased contents of netgroup file

Hi there --

We are running 11i v1 on a ServiceGuard cluster, and ran into the following incident. Two nodes were to be added to one of the groups listed in the /etc/netgroup file. The first step was to modify the /etc/hosts file with the appropriate information pertaining to the nodes.

The SAM utility was then used to access the section "Networked File Systems/NIS Groups". The two nodes were added using SAM, and when prompted, the new NIS map was pushed. However, upon checking the results, it was discovered that a blank map was pushed instead of populated one.

The end result was the administrator manually adding the two nodes a restored version of the netgroup file, and then running the ypmake command.

Has anyone seen this, and know what would have caused it? Thanks.

Re: SAM erased contents of netgroup file

Shalom,

Restore the missing files and check for patches dealing with this issue.

At the very least, bring the system current with a recent bi-annual patch set.

This can be caused by a file system going 100% during a push.

Hi there --

One other theory came up: If one administrator makes changes via SAM, and another subsequently makes changes via a command prompt, would the combination of the two cause the condition that was described in the original e-mail?
