SAM in not working in 11.23

Dear All,

I am using 9000/800/rp8420 box with HP_UX B.11.23 on it. 15 days back the server was rebooted and since then "SAM" utility and some commands like lpstat was not used.

But today when I tried to run SAM, the terminal is not returning the prompt.

Please suggest.

- error message?
- terminal GUI or X11 GUI of SAM?
- if X11-GUI: check $DISPLAY - variable: if set to a remote host, which accepts the redirection, your SAM windows would display at the remote host!

and check its executable binary's permissions.

Peter : It is not showing any error message. I told that the terminal is not returning the prompt only.

Ahsan : I checked the permission it is showing 555 permission in /usr/sbin location.

Hi Ahsan,

The patch you mentioned is not installed. Please tell if installation of this patch requires a reboot or not.

As I am not in a position to ask for a downtime. It is a production server.

As suggested by Peter check the $DISPLAY variable - maybe your SAM windows appears anywhere else?

Hi,

what happens, when you start a different X11 application, like xterm: does it show the same behaviour?
It wasn't sam, but yesterday one of my users had the 'wrong DISPLAY variable problem'.

Thanks for the help. I have successfully installed the patch and the SAM is working fine now. Updated number of the patch is PHCO_36563
