SAM is acting weird with LVM

Hey,

I was wondering if someone
would know the answer to the
following problem we've been
having.

SAM claims, that all of the disks are in use, how ever, we know for a fact that this is not so, even RAIDManager agrees, that there is lots of free unallocated space.

SAM also claims, that our disks are of weird sizes, three gigabytes, four gigabytes and so on, even though they are 9 and 19 gigabyte disks. I know this has something to do with, if I remember correctly, the fact, that you have to cut drives into smaller pieces for SAM to use? .. why then are not all of the pieces showing? used and unused?

I'm sure I didn't explain it very well but I'd appreciate any help.

Re: SAM is acting weird with LVM

Jani,

Have you tried installing the latest SAM/OBAM patch to see if the problem still occurs.

Is your AutoRaid connected to a NIO SCSI-Bus, because these are very old ones and not working as aspected. Sam in combination with AutoRaids on a SCSI-bus isn't supported anymore I think. Maybe you can check with the SAM Team who has dropped a question in the forum aswell, about receiving your SAM log file.

Good Luck

Re: SAM is acting weird with LVM

Hey Darrel,

Well, the curious thing is, that it all used to work just fine, but I suppose something has gone broken and now it's acting all weird.

I'm not sure about the latests patches, I just spend two days installing about 100 or so patches to the machine but it's been a while since I downloaded them all.

What's a NIO SCSI?

Re: SAM is acting weird with LVM

Hey Jani,

If I remember it correct, NIO stands for Narrow(HP-PB cards).
You can check with ioscan, for the type of bus.

You mentioned installing patches, check with the following command if you have patches in a installed state.
"swlist -l fileset -a state" if patches are in a installed or transient state.
If installed state run "swconfig \*"

Regards or "Houamenta"
