I have a HP-UX 11.0 system connected to a EMC Symmetrix
When using SAM to display all the disks, it reports that several disks that I know are in use as alternate links are Unused
example:
P 1/10/0/0.1.3 1 LVM vg140 4402 EMC SYMMETRIX
A 0/8/0/0.0.4 1 Unused -- 4402 EMC SYMMETRIX
Some of the Junior Admins are very reliant on SAM and it would be a big help if we could rely on SAMs information to know which disks are really in use or not! (Don't wanna be slaughtering data by assinging a disk already in use!)
Thnx

Re: Sam Reports Alternate Links as Unused
we had same situation and by installing one of the sam patches the problem was fixed. Now we don't see multiple paths in the sam for the disk which is part of the VG. I don't remember the patch number
hope this helps

Solution
You can refer to Knowledge base document id S3100001244
I am using an EMC disk array. SAM (System Administration Manger) reports
the alternate links as 'unused' disks. On the other hand, 'vgdisplay'
reports the correct information for the EMC disks.
How can I resolve this problem?
CONFIGURATION
Operating System - HP-UX
Subsystem - EMC Disk Array
RESOLUTION
Perform the following steps to resolve your problem:
1. Install latest SAM patch:
