sam shows 11.0 boot disk "unused" after ignite tape recovery

We have an N class running 11.0. The boot disk failed and could not be seen in ioscan results run from boot media (it had been c1t6d0), and its mirror (c2t6d0) didn't "work" (could be seen in ioscan but wouldn't boot the system.) To make a long story short, we moved the c2t6d0 disk to the A slot such that it became the c1t6d0 disk, booted from our make_tape_recovery tape, and did an unattended recovery.

We also installed a new disk into the c2t6d0 slot.

We haven't reconfigured the mirroring yet, but booted from c1t6d0 after the recovery (it rebooted automatically) and the computer is running ok, except...

SAM says the c1t6d0 disk, which is now the root/boot disk running the system, is "unused" and not a member of any volume group. Pvdisplay (and related LMV *display command) results are as would be expected for a LVM disk.

We have recovered from make_recovery tapes before but never noticed this (might have happened, but we didn't notice.) Any information will be appreciated.

Can you check /etc/lvmtab with "strings /etc/lvmtab" and see which disk is configured in vgoo in that file?

Paul,

Could you post the resuls from following commands

# echo "boot_string/S" |adb /stand/vmunix /dev/mem

# lvlnboot -v

# ioscan -fnCdisk

# swlist -l patch | grep -i sam

Hi Paul

make a copy of your /etc/lvmtab and run try run vgscan.

Below is output, edited to remove things like SAN disks. Thanks.

Re: sam shows 11.0 boot disk "unused" after ignite tape recovery

run "vgcfgrestore -n /dev/vg00 /dev/rdsk/c2t6d0" If you succeed, then try "lvlnboot -v
", vgdisplay -v vg00|more, lvdisplay -v /dev/vg00/lvol1|more ...

Re: sam shows 11.0 boot disk "unused" after ignite tape recovery

I actually remade the group device files, just to be sure, but they were and now are:

crw-r--r-- ... 64 0x000000 /dev/vg00/group
crw-r--r-- ... 64 0x010000 /dev/vg01/group

Re: sam shows 11.0 boot disk "unused" after ignite tape recovery

Nothing I tried actually resolved the problem, but I appreciate the replies. During a maintenance window I redid the recovery from the ignite tape, put in the more recent updates from backup tapes, and now lvm is working properly.
