Samba and HP UX 10.2
is running HP UX 10.2. They would like to access a SMB file share on their Windows NT domain. Forgive my lack of knowledge of HP UX, but does 10.2 come with a Samba client that I can use smbmount to access the share ?? If not can I download samba from somewhere to support the connection of this workstation to the NT domain.
Thanks in advance for your consideration
Regards,
John Rioux

Re: Samba and HP UX 10.2
HP has a free CIFS/9000 (which is basically samba repackaged) you can install it and then use smbmount to share the NT drive
Here's a readme on CIFS client for HP
http://www.software.hp.com/cgi-bin/swdepot_parser.cgi/cgi/displayProductInfo.pl?productNumber=B8724AA
You can download CIFS client from
https://software.hp.com/cgi-bin/swdepot_parser.cgi/cgi/try.pl?productNumber=B8724AA&date=
However if you want to install CIFS server you can download it from
https://software.hp.com/cgi-bin/swdepot_parser.cgi/cgi/try.pl?productNumber=B8725AA&date=

Re: Samba and HP UX 10.2
Here is the site where you can download precompile binaries of Samba for HP-UX 10.20.

Re: Samba and HP UX 10.2
Actually, what you want to do isn't possible on 10.20. The client software that's part of the standard Samba distribution can mount NT shares, but I don't believe that the share is visible to the OS. You can do the reverse, i.e. set up a HP share using Samba and mount it on the NT machine.
HPUX 11.0 has a CIFS client which can mount NT shares, but its not availabe for 10.20 and its not part of the standard Samba distribution (it also requires a reboot as it adds drivers to the kernel).
Hope this helps.

Re: Samba and HP UX 10.2
as CIFS is not available for HP-UX 10.20 you can't mount a SMB share to your HP-UX box.
But the normal samba distribution contains a smbclient which you can use. This smbclient acts more like a ftp program which transfers files to and from a SMB share.
Of course you can still go the other way and share a directory of your HP-UX box and access it from NT.
Get samba (see link posted above) and check which solution suits best.
Hope this helps
