SAMBA and NIS
Is it possible to setup SAMBA to authenticate with NIS passwords? If so, what is the setting to do so? I will be downloading the letest version soon, and looking for some answers before I start.
Thanks

Re: SAMBA and NIS
If your workstations are Windows 98/2000, or NT 4 with service pack 3
and above, Samba needs to use the encrypted password authentication. In
this case, Samba maintains its own password file. However, you can
change the Windows registry to force the workstations to use plain text
password. This way it probably will work with NIS. I have never done
that though.
Some other thing, if you want to use encrypted password, you need to have a smb password file and you can provide a command to samba to sync the smb password file with your unix password file.
