Re: samba and win2k

Yes, ANY micropuke os can access samba file and print shares. But, samba can not access MS "Active Directory" shares, because micropuke decided to modify the kerbos security standard, making it no longer a standard. Oh well...

Re: samba and win2k

Hi,

Yes you can use samba for file and print share
services on a Unix box. It is more or less designed for this particular purpose.

As for the name 'micropuke' these comments are not necessarily the comments of all even if we do agree!

Re: samba and win2k

Certainly you can share a directory without requiring a login/password. But I would not share this directory except as read-only. Otherwise, I would assume that every file and directory will be renamed, removed and corrupted within minutes of placing a rd/wt share onto the network.

This could happen due to a security issue but most often it will occur when the user says something like "Oops!"

Re: samba and win2k

Hi,

yes you can use samba to share directories and printers with nearly any Windows OS. I have samba 2.0.7 here to share drives to Win NT 4.0, Win98 and Win2000 with no problem.

I use the domain to validate the users, but you can also configure samba so that the user has to give a sepearte username and password.

You might also want so search this forum for samba. There are a lot of good threads about samba and userverification.

Hope this helps
