samba client install
I have downloaded a version of samba client from samba.org for 11.23 server. But the downloaded file is in tar.gz format.
I do not find any .depot file inside it. So, how can I install it on the server?
Any special procedure for it?
Thanks

Re: samba client install
#gunzip ur_file.tar.gz
#tar xvf ur_file.tar
then see the content you would be having something which would look like a depot :)

Re: samba client install
The best place to get a working samba version is: http://software.hp.com search for CIFS/9000
Download the client. Use swinstall to do the install.
It requires a reboot.
HP actually tested the apps on the software site and you will save yourself a lot of pain and hard work going that route.

@Kapil
I have already seen contents of tar.gz but could not find any depot file.
@SEP
Thanks for suggestion, but customer needs this GNU version only :-(
Any thoughts on how to install the same. I have attached the contents of the tar.

Re: samba client install
/docs/INSTALL.txt
and read this file and I suppose you may have to run "installbin.sh".

Re: samba client install
Right, this seems to be a source tarball and you'll have to build it.

Re: samba client install
First of all,
>I have downloaded a version of samba client
What you have downloaded is the server, SAMBA server.
The binary depot for HP-UX can be downloaded from:
http://samba.org/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/hp/samba-3.0.23a/
Be aware of the dependencies! You must install those in order to have a working product.
Do you need to run a SAMBA server on your HP-UX server (Do you export file systems using SAMBA)?
As a client, you can use HP's implementation, CIFS which is available from:
https://h20392.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=B8724AA
