SAMBA error - The mounted file system does not support extended attributes

G'Day All,

We have recently loaded all the available patch onto our HP-UX 11.11 machines. The problem we are having is an intermittent one when we go to delete a file thru the samba share.

The windows message is

The mounted file system does not support extended attributes.

But if we request the properties of the file after the error message is displayed and then delete the file it appears to let us (most of the time). That is fine except we have several jobs that run on the windows platform that manipulate the files that now fail.

Any ideas on how to resolve would be gratefully accepted.

Cheers

Jamie,

If I knew the answer, I'd give it! :-) But IMO, you might also want to post this on the Linux forum.

Re: SAMBA error - The mounted file system does not support extended attributes

I think this thread dealing with Samba/CIFS on HP-UX is appropriate in this forum.

I'd be interested to see what happens on the smb.log files defined in /etc/opt/samba/smb.conf

There may be more detail.

The most likely cause of these problems is group/owner permission issues.

What are the file attributes of a file that gives the trouble?

What version of CIFS/Samba are you using on HP-UX?

swlist -l product | grep -i cifs

Re: SAMBA error - The mounted file system does not support extended attributes

You can mount a CIFS filesystem using extended attributes and this enables ACL support. Check the "/etc/fstab".

Hi Jamie

We have, in the last 3 weeks started to see this problem although changes have been made to our hp system.

The only changes being made are to the Windows clients through a great number of updates comming down from microsoft.

Have you got any further with this?

Bill

Hi

Sorry that should have read No changes to our HP system.

Re: SAMBA error - The mounted file system does not support extended attributes

Hi All,

This problem has also surfaced on four of my L-Class machines running 11.00. Each machine runs on it's own class c subnet in different parts of the country. The client pc's also reside on the same local subnet as the Samba shares they access. Nothing changed on my UNIX machines yet one by one they are all having this same issue. I'm out of ideas as to the reason; the Samba shares are wide-open permissions wise. I'm making an assumption that this has to do with Micr0$0ft patches that corporate routinely pushes down. This is the only thing that has changed and would also explain why this started happening at separate sites at around the same time. My client pc's are running windows 2K. I'm really hopping I don't have to resort to batched FTP but at this point...
