Samba NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
This samba is eating my head.
I've configured a samba setup with an Unix box and Windows 2000 pc.
I'm able to access the unix shares in the Windows PC but when i try to access to WIndows shares in the Unix box using smbclient i'm having this error
r102-root> smbclient //pc104312/ondemand -U neopost
added interface ip=192.168.19.30 bcast=192.168.255.255 nmask=255.255.0.0
Password:
session setup failed: NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
I'm sure that i'm entering the correct password of the user neopost.
I'm really confused.
I'v this used id both on the unix and windows machine but the only differnce is the id is a admin one in the windows pc and a normal user in UNIX machine.
My smb.conf file looks like this.
# Global parameters
[global]
netbios name = R53
server string = Samba Server
interfaces = 192.XX.XX.XX
log level = 3
log file = /usr/local/samba/var/log.%m
max log size = 50
guest account = yes
[siva]
comment = siva
path = /sivatest
guest ok = Yes
Any help in the regard will be highly appreciated.
Thanks,
Siva

Re: Samba NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
what version of swamba are you running? The PC is the server and the UNIX box runs the client,correct ?
From the Server Manual:
" When operating as a member of a Windows domain, A.01.* maps any users authenticated by the remote domain controller to the guest
account if it can not obtain a UID via the getpwnam() call. A.02.* simply rejects the connection as the NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
error." This means version 2 behaves different to version 3.

Re: Samba NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
You are correct , i'm using samba 2.2.7 version and i know it is too old.. but right now i cannot install version three or later due to some dependencies issue.
If any body know any work around for this or is it i've to forget using smbclient in samba2.2.7 to share a windows share in a unix box.
Thanks,
Siva

Re: Samba NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
It used to work but the windows system had changed. After a lot of questions to IT, I finally had to use path that less directories. Unfortunately I still couldn't decend into that subdirectory once I was there.

Re: Samba NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
This problem usually results because the NT infrastructure does not accept the credentials of the Unix machine.
Sometimes it is solved by setting up a machine account on the Windows domain for the Unix server.
The net join command must be executed from the Unix machine using an administrative Windows user that is allowed to join the domain.
