samba question

hi all,

we have a share that users automatically map thru a batch file on on their pcs when they reboot them.

the user is asking me, is there a way (using samba) to get them a message of the day type thing? for example "maintenance at 2 pls log off!"

thx in advance

Re: samba question

Shalom,

You could modify the windows mount script that issues the net map commands to read a text file, display it for the users.

After the drive mapping the dos code would look like this.

type s:\message.of.the.day
sleep 5

Or maybe its pause.

The message would be set manually or by cron modifing the file message.of.the.day in the samba share.

Its a kludge but it does the job.

Personally I think the user could use some more work to do if this is what the user is spending time on.

If your organization has an msn chat client, that is a much more effective way of getting messages out.
