Hi,
Perhaps you are thinking of the browseable = no option?
If you put this in the share section of the smb.conf the share won't be seen when browsing with Network Neighbourhood, yet if you know the name you can connect to it.
Check smb.conf's man page or p115 of O'Reilly's Using Samba book.
