Samba v HP CIFS Server
I have downloaded the HP CIFS server (a.01.11.02) and it installed and runs with no problems. I see it is based on samba 2.2.10
I am new to HP CIFS, so is there any advantage using HP CIFS rather than Samba, apart from it works for me!
thanks
Jim

Re: Samba v HP CIFS Server
It is an HP Supported Product and you can actually invoke your support agreement for help if things go wrong or if there are issues. Plus, you won't have to concern yourself with downloading thr sources/binaries -- the sources/contents you are not sure if it contains any "hidden" stuff (ie. trojas, etc..)

Re: Samba v HP CIFS Server
Some minor benefits: it shows up in a swlist, standard install tree, SWAT built in, no need to worry about this library or that to compile...

Re: Samba v HP CIFS Server
CIFS is HP's port.
In a month CIFS based on Samba 3.0.4 or higher is expected.

Re: Samba v HP CIFS Server
I am not going to add much here. CIFS is nothing but HP's implementation of M$ SMB.
There is a gap of about 6 months between the latest samba version available from the opensource community and the one available from HP.
This enables HP to throughly test the product. that means to you , you nolonger have to remember the compile time options, what to include and what not to include.
The vanilla CIFS install is good to go in most of the cases. CIFS TP is the latest unsupported version of Samba implementation
