samx process is using 99.9% CPU

samx process is using 99.9% CPU. Please find the top result attached along with this.

I am using HPUX 11i.
When i grep for the process
# ps -eaf |grep samx
root 3924 3923 255 Mar 4 ? 8027:41 /usr/sam/lbin/samx -C -p 3410 -s users /usr/sam/lib/%L/ug.ui

root 3923 1 0 Mar 4 ? 0:00 sh -c LANG=C LC_ALL=C /usr/sam/lbin/samx -C -p 3410 -s users /u

root 23636 27540 1 12:02:22 pts/2 0:00 grep samx

I doubt some xwindows sam session is open.

Can i kill that process / how to rectify the same. Is this related to any patching too.

Hi,

Check this doc.

http://www5.itrc.hp.com/service/cki/docDisplay.do?docLocale=en_US&docId=200000076457560

Document description: samx spins if parent shell ignores SIGHUP and the window is closed
Document id: 8606316330

I would say kill the process.

Re: samx process is using 99.9% CPU

You should patch sam.

ps -ef | grep sam

Careful, some of these processes could be for example samba.

kill the sam processes judiciously. If orphaned you may need to use kill -9, don't do that as a first resort.
