Re: SAN setup

Franky,

You might try the following to see if there is a problem with your HBA cards. The ioscan on fc will tell you whether your HBA cards are claimed.

# ioscan -fnC fc
Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description
=================================================================
fc 0 0/3/0/0 td CLAIMED INTERFACE HP Tachyon TL/TS Fibre Channel Mass Storage Adapter
/dev/td0
fc 1 0/4/0/0 td CLAIMED INTERFACE HP Tachyon TL/TS Fibre Channel Mass Storage Adapter
/dev/td1
fc 2 0/7/0/0 td CLAIMED INTERFACE HP Tachyon TL/TS Fibre Channel Mass Storage Adapter
/dev/td2

Then do a fcmsutil on the /dev/tdn;

# fcmsutil /dev/td1

Vendor ID is = 0x00103c
Device ID is = 0x001028
TL Chip Revision No is = 2.3
PCI Sub-system Vendor ID is = 0x00103c
PCI Sub-system ID is = 0x000006
Topology = PTTOPT_FABRIC
Local N_Port_id is = 0x011100
N_Port Node World Wide Name = 0x50060b00000a48a1
N_Port Port World Wide Name = 0x50060b00000a48a0
Driver state = ONLINE
Hardware Path is = 0/4/0/0
Number of Assisted IOs = 16201699
Number of Active Login Sessions = 0
Dino Present on Card = NO
Maximum Frame Size = 960
Driver Version = @(#) libtd.a HP Fibre Channel Tachyon TL/TS/XL Driver B.11.00.10 PHSS_30597 /ux/core/kern/wsio/td_glue.c: Jul 25 2004, 13:14:38

This will tell you if the card is online or not. Something to get started by at least.

Thank for the inputs.
If that is ok, with everyone, then I'll close this posting.

Re: SAN setup

Franky,

I was hoping to see how you got on after you got commandview EVA (with or without SAN MA). I guess I'll have to keep an eye open for a new post.

Although the CV-EVA gui is pretty intuitive.

Good Luck.

Re: SAN setup

Hi Gavin,

Well, the host ( fibre-channel connected to the EVA) with the CommandView software is just not present there. And I need a reconfiguration of the volumegroups (currently 1 LUN presented of 250 GB as I learned in this thread ).
My local contact is checking with HP, if it is possible ( budget ) to have an HPCE come over and reconfigure the SAN ( instead of purchasing the CommandView setup ).

Thanks for your further concern.

Re: SAN setup

That seems like a short-term solution to me.

In my view one of the big selling points of SANs is the ease with which you can present vdisks to hosts and move them to other hosts if need be, to do that you'll need commandview EVA.

That's just my opinion.

Cheers.
