We have an the following
Hardware:BL870c
OS:11iv3
FC:LPe1105 FC Mezzanine Adapte
Library: ESL 712e/322 with 12 LTO 4 Ultrium tape drives
SAN Switch:Cisco MDS-9513
The SAN people have told me that they have presented these tape drives through the FIber Card.
No matter if I reboot, insf -e. I can not see the tape drives?

Re: San Tape Device not seen
ioscan what if anything do you see.
insf -e tape
I don't think the two commands above will work. More likely, you will need to check the physical connection the health of the fiber card/hba with fcmsutil, look for scsi address conflicts.

Hope this helps!

What do I need to ask the SAN team to look for as far as zoning and presentation?

Re: San Tape Device not seen
Get the WWN of the servers HBA with fcmsutil and tell to your SAN folks. Let them check the zoning.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: San Tape Device not seen
With commandview TL you can configure the library to be accessible from a certain host. Check this.
>> Is this on the tape device?
Get the WWN of the servers HBA with fcmsutil and tell to your SAN folks. Let them check the zoning.
>> I did send them the WWN and they have disk space presented to the server now. They said they checked the zoning and all was good. They keep telling me it is my problem but there are no scsi errors in syslog, I have run insf -e, I have rebooted, the kernel shows stape as static...

Re: San Tape Device not seen
Once the SAN team says that they have did their mapping after you sending the WWN's from to them, I would only do what you have already tried like insf and ioscan.
If you are local to server check and see if you have activity on FC's, I would also check for activity on the SAN switch. If no activity you might want to suspect a bad fiber.
I had run into similar kind of problem with storage LUN where SAN team always kept on saying that they see the luns visisble but after 24 hrs when I pushed it hard they finally came back to saying there was bad gbit card on the storage box.
Try this I hope you might get lucky.

/show/interface>access all
or use commandview tl.
Why you post so many disk related info, e.g. from ioscan?
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

SolutionLet them check the switch if both is visible (server and library), if zoning is configured and activated (!!) and finally if the library really allows the server to connect.
There is nothing you can do on the server ...
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

IMHO there are 2 possible reasons:
- zoning not activated (this sometimes happens, you create a new zone, but forget to make it active ... ;-))
- presentation settings on the library
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: San Tape Device not seen
But with the input from this group I convinced the SAN people to turn off all disk luns presented to this sever.
Then I moved the startup script for the program using the extra disk.
Unmounted and remed out the entry in fstab.
Rebooted
I can see the path they gave me for the controler and the tape.
I still can not ioscan -fnNC tape.
Some success.
They are checking the tape library as they have not enabled or cabled the lan port yet.

I had no idea I would have to set up a TL.
Anyone have docs on how to set this up by command line or front display.
Just a real simple setup?
Thanks

Re: San Tape Device not seen
Now the SAN people and I are trying to get this up and running.
I ma remote and the SAN people know very little about seting this up(me too )
I had the SAN people on site this am and he found the DVD for the TL but I don't think he is interested in serial cables or installing anything to his laptop.
