/sbin/rc[61]:1#: error in a HP visualise machine

/sbin/rc[61]:1#: is the error which i have been getting in my m/c.And it is not booting to multiuser mode also.So,if any one havin any idea abt it.

Line 61 of /etc/rc has probably been changed.

Have a look at it and I bet someone has put a "1" in there before the quote.
Never preceed any demonstration with anything more predictive than "watch this"

Also check that the /etc/rc.config is there and looks fine. Check the file to see if it has been recently modified. Copy a clean copy over to /etc if necessary:
# ll rc.config
# cp /usr/newconfig/etc/rc.config /etc/rc.config

Check if anything was logged to /etc/rc.log or rc.log.old that might help.

Thanks for ur reply.But i went through the rc file but there is no such modification in line 61.

Can you post the /sbin/rc file?
There is no substitute to HARDWORK
