Scale up Vs Scale out

Hi,
We are planning to implement CRM and convergent billing solution (Telecom). I am confused if we should go for scale out or scale up solution. The solution would most likey be H/W - Itanium; O/S - HPUX; CRM - Oracle Seibel; DB - Oracle 10g.

Could you please advice which would be preferred scale up or scale out for the back end database from your experience.

Looks like your choice is OK:
H/W - Itanium; O/S - HPUX; CRM - Oracle Seibel; DB - Oracle 10g

The only thing you have to make sure is that the hardware configuration (CPU/Mem,NW, etc) should be well enough to meet the future demands.

The scale out with two/three nodes with MC/SG (active-active) would be ok unless your customer size is huge reg the billing aspects.

I won't recommend scale up in a mission critical system involving billing.
