Schedule shutdown on HP9000, please help.
I have a question about schedule shutdown the HP9000 Servers. My Company have two HP9000 servers, V Class and K Class. And using MC/Service Guard. Using INFORMIX database and BaaN IV application for business prcessing. This is my server environement.
Now, I am planning to shutdown the server on nesxt Monday. My have created the vi script as shown below:
/baan4/bse/etc/rc.stop 1>/tmp/1out 2>/tmp/1err
su - informix -c /informix/inf_down 1>/tmp/2out 2>/tmp/2err
cmhaltpkg -v baanapp 1>/tmp/3out 2>/tmp/3err
cmhaltpkg -v infoapp 1>/tmp/4out 2>/tmp/4err
cmhaltnode -v baan2 1>/tmp/6out 2>/tmp/6err
cp /var/adm/syslog/OLDsyslog.log /var/adm/syslog/OLDsyslog.old.23012001
shutdown -hy 0
After that, I used the HPUX command " at -f filename 0815 Jan 22 " then press enter.
Now the shudule has been process, I think so.
I am not so confident about above steps that I went thru. Please guide me if any step that I went wrong.
You may email to me at pestontim@yahoo.com
Thank you so much in advance.

Re: Schedule shutdown on HP9000, please help.
I generally shutdown my databases via cron.
I always run my shutdown scripts (with su -c ...) as root from /usr/local/bin; with this script going out to run the shutdown at (ex.) /home/oracle/shutdown_db.sh
...NOW...when the db is down and I want to bring down the package and I tend to do this from the console, by hand. I know you can write a script, but I like to check and make sure it looks good before I bring it ALL down.
So, I guess what I'm saying is that if your doing a full shutdown (and I would presume your going to power down..) than you would be at the console. I just like to be on the safe side...and being there and being able to check everything before doing a 'shutdown'-makes me feel safer.
In this script - the way it looks to me...it is very likely your system may begin the commands to down some db...but your shutdown command may start before everything is done.
But I've only been doing this for a couple years, so maybe some old timers can share some tips on doing this 'remotely'.
Just my one and a half cents worth,

Re: Schedule shutdown on HP9000, please help.
I agree with Rita and Patrick. Stay at the console during the shutdown.
Question for me is, why do the shutdown.
Is it just to to some software maintenance
or replacing hardware or something like that ?
If you want to do the shutdown just to switch the machines off for a week or so, you better keep them up and running. Reason is, that during the startup you might experience some problems like harddisk failures ro similar hardware / software errors.
So consider carefully, what to do. But whatever
you do, think of double safety.

Re: Schedule shutdown on HP9000, please help.
Yes, I know if I be there to shutdown the server manually is much easier. But on that time, we have a week long holiday and I won't be there. So, I concern is whether my steps showing above is workable or not! Or any mistake that I taken before the time come to the shutdown server.
This is a good time to test the HP9000 hardware and software whether are reliablility, scalablility and etc.
Thank you in advance for all HPUX experts.
