scsi card not recognized

Hello Everybody,

Here is the situation. I have moved our archive server from a K420 to a K460 and have also moved the scsi card that the optical jukebox attaches to. When I brought up the K460, it does not see the new scsi card. The last thing on the ioscan is 10/12/7 (Built in Keyboard/Mouse). Everything should be there because I used Ignite to recreate this server on the K460. The card is in the first slot and should have an address of 10/16/4. I know this might be a simple and I do feel that I am just missing something here.
Any ideas from you guys and gals with more experience?
Is there something that I am missing?

Thanks,

-Bryan

Re: scsi card not recognized

Bryan,

Check cables, terminators, and the kernel driver. Is the SCSI card in the proper slot for it?

Re: scsi card not recognized

In ioscan output, does it reports like "UNCLAIMED" ? Can you see this card or devices connected to it from boot console menu? Did you try checking the card with STM or offline diag? If it's not recognized in any of these places, I would check the card, is the card seated properly, compatibility etc.

just some thoughts ...

Re: scsi card not recognized

Ok, I have checked the cabling, reseated the card and even moved the card to different slots; still nothing. The card does not even show up in ioscan. So it is back to the drawing board.

Re: scsi card not recognized

Does the 'search' option in the boot console handler menus pick up anything?

Run iomap/mapper from ODE - either from your system disk or support CD

If there is a SCSI terminator fuse on the card check that.

A few more things to try.

Re: scsi card not recognized

Hi,
may be you forgot to put in a scsi terminator ?

Other thing:
- are you sure all software was installed well ?
- is all sw properly configured ?
- are the proper scsi driver loaded in the kernel ?

Re: scsi card not recognized

Thanks to everybody who replied. I am not sure why the card did not show up initially, but I moved it to another slot and it was fine. I did have to change the hardware path in the system file for the spt driver and then rebuild the kernel. I also had to recreate the device files manually. After all of that, everything came up fine.

Thanks again for everybodies suggestions.

Re: scsi card not recognized

Hi Bryan:

When I debug wierd stuff like this, I always work from what is known to work. SO:

1. Put the old equipment back in the 420 and make sure it connects to the jukebox with all the appropriate drivers. Assuming the equipment still works, do step 2, if not, you don't have a problem on your 460, you need to then figure out what IS wrong.

2. Review all of the operating system versions, drivers, and patches listings for anything related to SCSI cards/equipment/drivers and compare them to the new system. Any deltas will likely be where you need to look.

3. Also, you should contact HP or a vendor and verify that the model of the card is supported in the new hardware. Sometimes, subtle changes in system boards freeze out older cards. Do you know the complete information about the manufacturer and model# of your card and have you ensured that a driver has been loaded that will support that card on this hardware platform with it's current OS version?

Let us know...
