Ive got a dusty olde N4000-55 which has been rebuilt to 11.23 from DVD media. The SCSI cards on the PCI bus are showing as UNCLAIMED in the ioscan and I cant see whats attached to them. They are the older wide connection type rather than the new small one.
Any ideas? Ive slapped aload of patches and hardware enablement stuff on but still no joy. The NEXUS PCI interface is claimed, its the 3 cards that are not.
This is a major pain as I cant 'see' the SCSI attached tape library etc.
thanks

Re: SCSI cards with 11.23 on an N4000?
Could be a bad card or a bad system board.
Try testing with cstm/mstm or xstm
You may wish to try another card depending on the results.

SolutionNow things aren't a total loss because you can install LVD SCSI interfaces in your N box --- and they should be dirt-cheap on the used equipment market --- and use an LVD/HVD bus converters.
Paralan makes several and so does Blackbox.

Re: SCSI cards with 11.23 on an N4000?
The server was previously running at 11.11 and the PCI SCSI cards were fine - The main use for one of them is a StorageTek L150 library with a SCSI attached rebotics.
So you are saying that this older stle wide SCSI connectors are not supported at 11.23 and I cant get a driver? FYI IOscan reads as follows...
ioscan - shows PCI SCSI cards as unknown:
0/8 ba Local PCI Bus Adapter (782)
0/8/0/0 unknown PCI SCSI (1000000f)
0/10 ba Local PCI Bus Adapter (782)
0/10/0/0 unknown PCI SCSI (1000000f)
0/12 ba Local PCI Bus Adapter (782)
0/12/0/0 unknown PCI SCSI (1000000f)
1/4 ba Local PCI Bus Adapter (782)
1/4/0/0 unknown PCI SCSI (1000000f)
1/10 ba Local PCI Bus Adapter (782)
1/10/0/0 unknown PCI SCSI (1000000f)
However fibre cards are OK:
1/12 ba Local PCI Bus Adapter (782)
1/12/0/0 fc HP Tachyon TL/TS Fibre Channel Mass Storage Adapter
1/12/0/0.1 fcp FCP Domain
1/12/0/0.1.22.0.0 ext_bus FCP Array Interface
1/12/0/0.1.22.0.0.0 target
1/12/0/0.1.22.0.0.0.0 disk EMC SYMMETRIX
1/12/0/0.1.22.0.0.0.1 disk EMC SYMMETRIX
ioscan -fn |grep -i pci
ba 6 0/8 lba CLAIMED BUS_NEXUS Local PCI Bus Adapter (782)
unknown -1 0/8/0/0 UNCLAIMED UNKNOWN PCI SCSI (1000000f)
ba 7 0/10 lba CLAIMED BUS_NEXUS Local PCI Bus Adapter (782)
unknown -1 0/10/0/0 UNCLAIMED UNKNOWN PCI SCSI (1000000f)
ba 8 0/12 lba CLAIMED BUS_NEXUS Local PCI Bus Adapter (782)
unknown -1 0/12/0/0 UNCLAIMED UNKNOWN PCI SCSI (1000000f)
ba 11 1/4 lba CLAIMED BUS_NEXUS Local PCI Bus Adapter (782)
unknown -1 1/4/0/0 UNCLAIMED UNKNOWN PCI SCSI (1000000f)
ba 13 1/10 lba CLAIMED BUS_NEXUS Local PCI Bus Adapter (782)
unknown -1 1/10/0/0 UNCLAIMED UNKNOWN PCI SCSI (1000000f)

Re: SCSI cards with 11.23 on an N4000?
Are there labels with "HVD" written on it?
Are the connectors 68 pin?
Good indicators for HVD SCSI.
Take out the cards and have a look at the part number to ensure the type.
HVD (F/W) devices are no longer supported beginning with 11.23 - but supported with 11.11.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: SCSI cards with 11.23 on an N4000?
You can use A5149A, A5150A, or A5838A HBA's because they are all LVD devices.
Don't even think about trying to connect an LVD HBA to an HVD anything because HVD SCSI devices are incompatible with everything else --- including terminators.
If you must use this library then an LVD/HVD converter is really your only option.
