scsi disk VS san disk env
Please let me know the difference between scsi disk environment and san disk environment.
I have heard that using san disk environment we cant set up symmetric cluster.
please suggets ..

Re: scsi disk VS san disk env
SCSI is a protocol or standard for connecting
peripheral devices like diks ,tapes,CD DVD drives through SCSI bus ,where as SAN is storage area network where remote LUNS /diks are accessed over HBA ( FC).

Re: scsi disk VS san disk env
Hi,
Adding to manix's comments. Since you were talking about assymmetric clusters, the first thing that comes into mind with classic LVM and serviceguard is "device files". As the concept mainly revolves around a shared disk, the device files that are used to indicate one disk on one of the nodes of the cluster might be different from the device file for the same disk on the other node of the cluster because the device files for the disks are being generated by two different kernels on the two different nodes of the cluster(on 11.31 O.S). I am talking about serviceguard versions 11.17 and before.
The cDSF feature that is an enhancement on LVM clears away this "feature" of "assymmetry" when you talk in terms of a serviceguard cluster. But I have never used it.

Ismail Azad

AFAIK scsi drives are generally internal or some external JBODs diks like DS2300 connected through SCSI HBA.
Where as SAN diks are accessed over FC HBA
& FC switches.
