SCSI errors when connecting DAT72(HP C7438A) to rp4440 with 11.11
One thing that i noticed is that the rp3440's use the wide SCSI connection and the tape drive does too..So the SCSI cable i use is same to sameI(68pin) however, the rp4440 use the small SCSI lVD/SE so i had to get a cable that had the smaller SCSI connection on one end the larger SCSI connection on the other to connect to the tape drive.
pardon my terminology..
Can someone help? I need an answer ASAP..

Re: SCSI errors when connecting DAT72(HP C7438A) to rp4440 with 11.11
The core I/O card has 2 external SCSI connectors, because there are 2 internal busses.
NEVER open an active bus!
Depending on your configuration (hardware), the internal disks are on 1 or 2 internal busses.
If they are on 2, you CANNOT (MUST NOT) connect external devices on that bus!
An "ioscan -fn" will clarify if you are using "simplex" or "duplex" disk configuration - post it!
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

so you have a duplex configuration and must not use any external built-in port.
Hope this helps!

Re: SCSI errors when connecting DAT72(HP C7438A) to rp4440 with 11.11
You can also look into make_net_recovery.
Also you have 2 unused PCI slots in your server, you can add a scsi controller.

You mentioned that there were other slots, are you suggesting i take that card out and put it in another slot? Will that make my issue go away? And if so, which slot?

Re: SCSI errors when connecting DAT72(HP C7438A) to rp4440 with 11.11
If you look on the server, the PCI slots #1 and #2 are colored light blue. These slots have factory installed cards, #1 is for the disks and #2 is for the lan. The remaining slots are colored red (or dark red, I am not good with color hues) and are for add on cards.
Each pci slot is attached to an i/o bus and has different i/o bandwidth. Take a look at the quickspecs and the i/o architecture to see the speed of each slot.
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12034_na/12034_na.PDF
Download and save the quickspecs and the user manual, they will soon disappear from the HP web site.

Remember what I said about the rp3440 and the tape connect to the built-in port!
Hope this helps!
