SCSI Sense information dump

Hi,

I am running an HP C1700T jukebox (HP40T) with two drives (HP C1716T) in it. The software that runs this AMASS.

The last days, many failures during readings/writings appear on one drive. The AMASS log reports SCSI Sense information dumps, e.g.
Aug 22 18:43:39 front amass LIBIO2_1[2258]: E0695(7)<00000>:scsilib6176: SCSI Sense information dump (in hex): Sense key: 0x3 ASC: 0x11 ASCQ: 0x2 f0 00 03 00 04 c3 16 10 00 00 00 00 11 02 00 80 00 02 41 01 00 00 00 00

Is anybody here to interprete this code? What does it mean?

Re: SCSI Sense information dump

Its very difficult to interpret the SCSI sense information. However, HP's OnlineDiags will do some decoding for you - if theyre installed (from the SupportCD). Fire up xstm, go to TOOLS -> UTILITY -> RUN LOGTOOL then use either VIEW -> FORMATTED LOG or RAW SUMMARY and when you find the SCSI errors for your tape device it will give you more info as to the type of error, eg. I/O error, and a description of the error.

Re: SCSI Sense information dump

The meaning of Sense Key 03 is: "Medium Error"
The combination of ASC 11 and ASCQ 02 is: "Error too long to correct"
There is no good troubleshooting with bad data

Re: SCSI Sense information dump

Look for the line in syslog that is in the resets and the "SCSI: dev: cd052000" dev: maps to the device which in this case looks like c5t2d0.
