Need Help.
I am facing problem while installing my PA RISC server (rp3410). I have IGnite Server running on IA server and configured properly for Igniting PA servers.
But the problem is when i go thr' PDC prompt of PA machine i am not able to see lan boot devices.
Main Menu> sea lan install
It simply says "no device found"
when i do
Main Menu> sea
It list all potential boot device but there is no NIC card listed in that.
What could be the problem.
Thanks in advance for your support and time.

Re: sea lan install : No device found
I've had the same problem.
It was solved after connecting both ignite server and the server to be installed to lan 0.
There's a lot more on that to be found on this forum.
regards,
Bart

Re: sea lan install : No device found
Tell me whether this error means it's not at all finding the Ignite Server or there is something wrong with the boot file on the Ignite server.
Thanks bharat

Re: sea lan install : No device found
"when i do
Main Menu> sea
It list all potential boot device but there is no NIC card listed in that."
that the server has lan-boot disabled... I've not yet got the experience with 3410's, but it should be some config setting to make this available.

Re: sea lan install : No device found
I tried burts solutions but it didn't worked. I connected Two server directly with cross cables but it is giving same error.
Elmar i am also installing 3410 for the first time. I tried to go thr configuration menu but didn't see any specific option regarding enabling lan for boot.
But to notice one thing from my second reply:
Main menu> sea lan install
See here it recognises the lan card properly and says searching on 0/1/2/0.
Any more ideas or workarounds?
Thanks Bharat

Re: sea lan install : No device found
See this --
Main Menu: Enter command or menu >
Main Menu: Enter command or menu > sea lan install
Searching for potential boot device(s) - on Path 0/1/2/0
This may take several minutes.
To discontinue search, press any key (termination may not be immediate).

Re: sea lan install : No device found
how about what the lan address and subnet mask is?
if you haven't set these, i doubt if they came from hp set to the values of your network.
and when it asks to interact with ipl, the correct answer is no

Re: sea lan install : No device found
but check to set the network configuration is correct.
and best if it isn't auto-negoiate
and i think someone already mentioned this but the new system will need to be on same subnet as your ignite server.

SolutionIf i am correct the rp3410 servers lan interface suports 10/100/1000 Mbit speeds. You could check the settings first. When we orded one i asked HP if it was possible to install the servers over the network using the Gbit, and the aswer was YES. How did you patch the interface?
Normally when we get a server delivered it is preinstalled and we get a paper that specifies server config info like installed software and a listing of ioscan.. If you have such a document you can view the hardware path of the lan interface and do a bo aff the hardware path.

Gideon

Re: sea lan install : No device found
I checked the lan interfaces of both the Ignite server IA rx2600 and PA 3410 server.
For 3410 it is 1000 base T and IA 2600 it is 10/100 Tx.
So do you think this is the issue and if so can anyone tell me how to fix this thr' PDC.
Thanks
Bharat

Re: sea lan install : No device found
BY the time some things happened on my server and not caught in that.
Actually i had IA Server and
# swlist | grep Ignite
output is as follows:
B5725AA B.5.0.35 HP-UX Installation Utilities (Ignite-UX)
Ignite-IA-11-23 B.5.0.35 HP-UX Installation Utilities for Installing 11.23 IPF Systems
Now what i did was tried to copy some file of other Ignite System on this server and now during installation it warns me about this version difference i am having. I don't want to proceed in this way and would like to go with the version other server has. It is listed as follows:
B5725AA,r=B.5.1.33,a=HP-UX_B.11.11_32/64,v=HP
Now how should i proceed with this upgradation without much disturbing the setup. WHat would be the safest way to do that. I don't want to loose the existing configuration files.
Elmar: What i noticed is even though it doesn't show the lan module in "sea" output (you only see it in "sea lan install") you can do net bootup with "bo lan.
Thanks for you support and expecting more replies on upgrading the Ignite version.
