Does anyone have a suggestion to discover the number of files are in one mount point?

of course this all depends on what you mean by a file (everything in unix is a file, ie regular files, device files, sockets, etc)

find /mountpoint -xdev | wc -l

will give you a count of all the files

You could also use the inode count.

# bdf -i /mountpoint

I am looking for number of regular files in a mount point. bdf -i gives it in percentage, I believe it also includes everything e.g socket, etc...

will give you the number of regular files
