SecureCRT connection with Servers

Hi,

I use secureCRT to connect to hpux servers.
I usually copy (highlighting by clicking left mouse key)
and paste (clicking middle mouse button) long directory names while doing cd (change
directory etc).

When i use exceed to connect to the servers it works fine but with SecureCRT it does not work.

Can anyone suggest how to enable it (mouse middle key) in SecureCRT for pasting ?

Thanks,
Shiv

Shalom from California Shiv,

I would recommend changing your terminal environment. Most probably this methodology is failing because you are getting an end of line character in the middle of your copy string when you try and cut.

Re: SecureCRT connection with Servers

secureCRT has very little in common with Xwindows tools such as Exceed. With Xwindows, you have no client on your PC -- instead, Exceed is nothing more than a display server, essentially, a software screen that is told what to do by programs running on yopur HP-UX machine. In essence, your PC is 'borrowing' the hpterm (or xterm or dtterm) program from HP-UX and the results of that program are simply displayed on the PC.

secureCRT however is a native PC client. It runs telnet or SSH inside the PC and HP-UX just runs the standard telnetd and sshd daemons.

Now mouse behavior is completely undefined with a character mode interface such as telnet or ssh. There is no mouse for character mode tools so when a given program (Xwindows such as xterm, hpterm, dtterm, or PC client such as secureCRT) provides mouse support (cut/paste/copy, it is completely configured by the client program. The likelihood that secureCRT even understands the middle button, much less respond in the same way as an Xwindow client like xterm may be low.

However, a quick browse of the secureCRT website finds this note about middle buttons support:

http://www.vandyke.com/support/tips/copyonselect.html

So you're in luck. secureCRT does offer Xwindow-like support.

Thanks Bill!!
You are really one of the great Unix Guru of this forum.

How did you learn so much Unix in such a great detail ? Did you learn from HP's official instructor led training in your starting career ?

I am just curious so that i can also go and take some HP's instructor led classes.

I've been playing with computers for a very long time, HP-UX since the late 1980's. Most of the detail comes from experience, a fancy word for making mistakes and experimenting.

I have taken several HP courses and they are excellent. I worked with the instructors as well as delivering several web-based courses. I definitely recommend HP instructor-led classes. One of the best sources of learning was in the HP Response Center where I could collaborate as well as duplicate many of the varied configurations used by HP customers.

However, the web is my most important resource, and for your question, I asked Google to find secureCRT, which found VanDyke software where I just searched for Xwindows and found the FAQ. The rest of the details about Xwindows versus PCs comes from many years of using Xwindows on HP-UX workstations as well as many 'real' terminals and PC emulator programs.

Bill,

I am thinking to take some advanced training for higher end sys admin in hpux.

I will need some guidance from you as you have already taken many intructor led courses on HPUX from HP.
