Self maintaining server database

Hello,

Does anyone know of a free or open source tool that is safe/reliable to load on your servers to keep track of software, OS, and that the host is alive, and have it available in a central database or nice web interface. It would be also nice if there were places to put contacts for app admins, dba, etc. I want to keep track of the basics on my servers and having some sort of deamon would help me keep track of decoms or new builds better and help ensure the data is kept up to date.

If you use hp depot for most software and patches, sd/ux via swagend provides a nice database of software that can be queried by the swlist command.

I haven't heard any such s/w available free.

we are using Tivoli(TMR)to do the same.

even the HP open view does the same function

Hi,
Maybe Ignite will solve at least part of your problem. The Ignite server save the configuration for all installed clients, hardware, software, filesystem layout, kernel configuration etc.

Of course, there is several other features with using an Ignite server.

I have used Tivoli and ignite in environments before. Tivoli can do a good job, but it take quite an effort to get it deployed and it is quite costly. Also, some of its root capabilies can be good or scary :). Currently the best things I have available are power broker ans ignite. If anyone runs accross any good free or low cost tools with server/software inventory capability or have created your own please feel free to share. Thanks for your help everyone.

I use IRM (Inventory Resource Manager) to maintain a database of software/hardware and trouble tickets.

Do you have a compiled version for HPUX and did you have any problems compiling it?

IRM is written in PHP,and I have only used it under Redhat.
