sendmail and sm agent hangs hp-ux boot

Hello,

I have made a snapclone from boot vdisk and present it to other server. Now when the HP-UX 11.31 boot stay hang on sendmail and sm agent services. Can someone help me?

Not that this is the solution but.

stalling on sendmail during boot is either a DNS issue or network issue.

All lan cards in same slots and called the same thing ? All hardware exactly the same as on source? Doubt it.

This is s typicall issue with cloning or snapping is that the hardware is not exactly the same.

How to fix this ? Do not use snap to clone / boot other hardware. Use Ignite interactively.

I have tried to make the customer understand this kind of issues, but the customer still think that everything is possible. I'm gonna try one or two more things. The server is the same but the hardware is not on the same address.

You could start looking for some doc on HP's website that would probably state the snap clones are not supported for cloning devices.

Use Ignite. It is the officially supported process/method for creating system recovery images.

If the customer is simply using your time to play with things then I am sure you can spend their money trying to get this to work. ( anything is possible for the right amount of money ).

sendmail hangs are due to bad networking. Look at the /etc/rc.log file to see any other failures, especially errors like "not reachable" or "invalid route", etc. You can often bypass these long delays by unplugging *all* LAN cables and boot up with the real console. Or you can disable sendmail in /etc/rc.config.d/mailservs (and probably disable NFS in nfsconf) and see if it boots OK. Then fix the network configs.

The solution was unplug the cables shutdown the server. Restart again and it works!!!
