hello,
i plan to move sendmail to a service guard environment.
does a white paper exist who to implement it?
i have experience of service guard and of a configuration of BIND (DNS) in service guard environment. my sendmail know how : i can configure a smart relay and some options (like message size, traffic ) , mailertables and aliases. not so detailed know how.
some ideas (it don't if it is possible):
- create a filesystem in a shared service guard volume and configure in sendmail.cf the QueueDirectory to this filesystem ( like FS /mqueue )
- move sendmail config to a cluster-filesystem and start sendmail in service guard control script from this cluster-filesystem ?
- should i configure other options ? i know it from BIND and BIND named process should listen on service guard package ip address
- when i move service guard package to the alternate server, on this server also the mail's exist from the queue. yes, i know, when service guard package is down, mailing don't run .
regard,

Hello,
Sendmail Mail Transfer Agent is certainly
supported in ServiceGuard environment.
One of the links that can help you:
http://docs-pro.houston.hp.com/en/5992-4804/ar01s07.html
There is also a full document that
describes Sendmail in SG/LX (Linux):
docs.hp.com/en/T2343-90001/T2343-90001.pdf
I am teaching Capacity Advisor course at the
customer site this week so I cannot check
some notes I have at my workplace (I am in
a different city and different state at the moment).
Cheers,

Re: sendmail in service guard environment
Shalom,
sendmail is agnostic. It could care less what environment it is in.
It will work in a serviceguard environment and should be restricted to lisen on the floating IP address assigned to that.
Daemon start, IP address, volume group activation should be all controlled in the package control script.
Some level of customization may be required to modify the sendmail.mc file under HP-UX to listen on the floating IP address.

That link shows you some of the eccentricities of sendmail on HP-UX
