sendmail problem
I thought I knew how to do this. On my HP9000 it works:
# /usr/sbin/sendmail -bv -v -oL10 [email protected]
[email protected]... deliverable: mailer relay, host livingstonmail.kymata.com, user [email protected]
On my Linux machine it doesn't:
# /usr/sbin/sendmail -bv -v -oL10 [email protected]
[email protected]... kymata.com: Name server timeout
[email protected]... Transient parse error -- message queued for future delivery
[email protected]... deliverable: mailer relay, host livingstonmail.kymata.com, user [email protected]
/etc/nsswitch.conf
hosts: files
no /etc/resolve.conf
/etc/sendmail.cf
DSlivingstonmail.kymata.com
What did I miss?
# /usr/sbin/sendmail -bv -v -oL10 [email protected]

Re: sendmail problem
Compare the /etc/hosts, Dj$w macro in sendmail.cf and the sendmail.cw file of the two. Make sure the sendmai.cw file has only the name this host is known by.

Re: sendmail problem
What version of sendmail are you running on your Linux box ?
Run sendmail -d0.1
If you have sendmail 8.7.1, you need to make sure that /etc/mail/service.switch matches the contents of /etc/nsswitch.conf.

Re: sendmail problem
Confirm that your name server is properly configured, either the /etc/hosts file or the DNS.
