Sendmail problem
Hi guys
I am learning sendmail recently
In a WAN network linked via VPN
How do I send email from my main mail server with IP 172.16.0.2(bsd.ejemplo.com.co) in say Colombia to
my mail server with IP 172.22.0.2(lima.ejemplo.com.pe) in Peru.
How do I send from Peru mail server to Colombia mail server?
Should I use smart host?
I have sendmail 8.9.3
Thanks in advance
Juan

Re: Sendmail problem
As in all things Unix there are multiple answers.
If your server has direct access to the internet, the following entry needs to be made to your /etc/mail/access file.
172.22.0.2 RELAY
This will allow the sendmail server to relay mail directly to the Internet.
Then you need to rebuild your hast database, a script for hpux is attached.
You'll probably need to do the same thing on the other server if you want things to be two way.
If there is no direct access to the internet the solution is actually easier.
in the file /etc/sendmail.cf
Add a DS directive.
DS
[IP_address_of_relay_server]
save the file
/sbin/init.d/sendmail stop
/sbin/init.d/sendmail start
You'll need to authorize 172.22.0.2 on the relay server so the smtp connection request isn't refused.
sendmail or a replacement daemon needs to be RUNNING at both ends of this trip.
/etc/resolv.conf must point to a valid DNS server that can resolve Domain Name requests.
/etc/sendmail.cf must have dns enabled, preferablhy the first choic on host resolution.
Hope this at least gives you a start.
If it helps, please point the post.
If you need more help, post more specifics.
