Re: Sendmail tunig question

It is not necessary. Sendmail normally is listening for incoming mail, and the other process is used to send the outgoing messagess. So, if the meil i being received, you can send another in the same time.
If you are looking for docs for sendmail, you can try howto: http://info.ccone.at/INFO/RH-sendmail-HOWTO/

And use google, Luke!

You could try setting header precedence for your domain:

Re: Sendmail tunig question

I will ask differently...
1. May I block incoming messages for while and let only outgoing mails?
2. Or May I reduce that more resources will be for outgoing messages and less resources will be for incoming?
Am I right in thinking?

1. May I block incoming messages for while and let only outgoing mails?

I think that you can create a script that changes the /etc/rc.config.d/mailservs SENDMAIL_SENDONLY value to 1 and restart sendmail, once mail processed, you can revert the changes.

Or, block incoming connections to port 25 in your firewall.

Re: Sendmail tunig question

sendmail runs on hpux with several options. You have a -bd option, for example, which runs it as a 'background daemon'. You also have an option for sendmail to check to queue for outgoing messages. It's of the format '-q30m', which in this case checks every 30 minutes for messages in the queue and sends them out.

Now, if your queue is filling, and you are only checking every 90 minutes or something, you can reduce the time between checks, and outgoing mail will process it faster.

If you stop the sendmail process (one that has something like 'sendmail -bd -q30m') and start sendmail with just the queue (sendmail -q30m), then only outgoing mail will be sent, sendmail will stop listening on port 25, and will not accept requests.

Anyway, sendmail has so many configurations I like to call it a 'black art' to know what to do. We pass the sendmail book around our place like it's a hot potato. Hopefully something I've said will get you going at least.

Hope it helps
