Sendmail Upgrade

what would the steps to upgrade sendmail, what would be the impacts (downtime etc) on hp-ux 11.11. would it be a simple swinstall from a depot? Also what would be a good version to upgrade to (not the latest)

Yuo won't need downtime to upgrade sendmail, the only thing will be to restart the sendmail services after upgrading the sendmail.

I recently upgraded to Sendmail 8.13.3. The only concern is to make sure that you have modified /etc/sendmail.cf to match your current configuration. I would suggest making a copy of the existing sendmail.cf file then upgrade.
Diff the new sendmail.cf and the old sendmail.cf and apply the changes.
It is better to do that then keep the old sendmail.cf file.

Why _not_ the latest? What makes you think
that the old bugs and security holes are
better than the new ones?

The steps to upgrade would probably depend on
details like whether you start with a patch
kit from HP or a source kit from
sendmail.org.

It's not really all that hard.

Back up all the configuration files in /etc/mail and then swinstall the depot from HP http://software.hp.com

You back up the configuration files merely in case something gets trashed. The upgrade deals with several major security faults, so there may be conflict with any customizations you have made to the configuration files.
