Serial ports configuration for servers
I found that in my two HP Unix A400 servers have different configurations and those are using B.11.00 system. One of them the Peripheral Devices/Cards list has missed three serial ports.
The following configurations are compared with the normal and the fault.
The correct:
H/W Path Driver Description
-----------------------------------------------
0/0/0/0 btlan3 HP PCI 10/100Base-TX Core
0/0/1/0 c720 SCSI C896 Ultra Wide Single-Ended
0/0/1/1 c720 SCSI C896 Ultra Wide Single-Ended
0/0/2/0 c720 SCSI C875 Fast Wide Single-Ended
0/0/2/1 c720 SCSI C875 Ultra Wide Single-Ended
0/0/4/0 func0 PCI BaseSystem (103c128d)
0/0/4/1 asio0 Service Processor (1 port)
The fault:
H/W Path Driver Description
-----------------------------------------------
0/0/0/0 btlan3 HP PCI 10/100Base-TX Core
0/0/1/0 c720 SCSI C896 Ultra Wide LVD
0/0/1/1 c720 SCSI C896 Ultra Wide Single-Ended
0/0/2/0 c720 SCSI C875 Fast Wide Single-Ended
0/0/2/1 c720 SCSI C875 Ultra Wide Single-Ended
0/0/4/0 asio0 Service Processor (3 ports)
0/0/5/0 asio0 Service Processor (1 port)
The last one is the card used for serial ports. I think that it is not normal, isn't it? The port is already used by the console.
I checked that there are 4 ports available in other servers. Do I forget to enable some settings?
Many thx
Alex

Re: Serial ports configuration for servers
Hi,
You can Compare the list in SAM-Kernel Configuration-Driver subsystems of Both the servers.

Re: Serial ports configuration for servers
I am not familiar with the func0 driver, but if the two systems are identical hardware / placement wise, then go into sam, kernel configuration, drivers and be sure that the driver func0 is shown. If that but not active, then select it. If not there, I would guess that there is probably a Product (usually having the same part number as the interface card (check ioscan) - (or possibly a hardware enablement patch) needed for the PCI functions to be recognized.
good luck,
fwc
