Server hangs at "Starting Syncer Daemon"

We have one D230 server ( HP-UX 10.20 )which hangs at the time of booting .
It hangs at 'Starting Syncer Daemon' and it is just showing wait/busy .
We kept the server for half an hour in that state but it didnt boot.
After manually recycling the power 2,3 times it starts .
This pblm happens once or twice in a week .
Any pblms with the hard disk ??

Re: Server hangs at "Starting Syncer Daemon"

Syncer may be trying to check file system integrity. May be a problem with file system.

Try to check file system health with syncer after getting prompt manually. Hard reboot (recycling power) will make problem with file system surely.

hth.

Easy to suggest when don't know about the problem!

Re: Server hangs at "Starting Syncer Daemon"

Hi Bejoy,

Also scan the disks (ioscan -fnCdisk) and search in /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log for possible warnings...

Re: Server hangs at "Starting Syncer Daemon"

boot the m/c in single user mode, run fsck, and mount the file systems, check ioscan -fnCdisk, and check the disks for curruption,
dd if=/dev/dsk/cxtxdx of=/dev/dsk/cxtxdx bs=1024k

Hi All,
The pblm was with one of the hdds, after replacing it the server started working fine.
