Hi

You could TOC the box and trace the cause for system hangs after it comes up by crash dump.

Thanks & Regards

Re: Server Hangs .Cannot login. But able to ping the server .

looks like you could be running out of memory.

You can monitor memory and swap usage, with vmstat or kmeminfo.

Look into the syslog for errors regarding swap reservation.

you can also get sar runing and leave it collecting info, to have a general idea of what's happening
Windows?, no thanks

Hi
The system has enough memory no chance of running out of memory.

Ramesh can you tell me what is TOC the box and checking the hardware please.

Shalom Robin,

The server has a TOC button.

Press it. IF savecrash is configured /etc/rc.config.d/savecrash first variable set to 1, you will get a crash dump, be able to form crash with q4 tools.

Then send the output to your friendly local response center and you will get guidance as to whether this is hardware or software.

Does it fully boot? It may be loading networking software but then failing to complete another of its tasks.

If you're at the console you should be able to see what task it was trying to complete when it stopped.

Re: Server Hangs .Cannot login. But able to ping the server .

Hi,

it could be a (kernel) configuration problem,
or your disks are full (at least the disk of user home directories) or you've a disk crash.
Can you see if the server is still doing his job - whatever it is?
You've tried to shutdown the server?
Have you switched off the server?

If it doesn't boot up you'll see if it's a disk failure.
If it boot up again, check the log files (syslog).
