hello,
today when i came in the morning my server showed the message 'exec failed: cannot find /stand/vmunix'..is the reinstalltion only method.. i had no backups of this server as it is a test server..and is there any way that i can find out if anybody removed the kernel manually..
pls help me

hello Asish,
You could follow kapils suggestion.But, the existence of vmunix.prev should be acertained.At the ISL prompt you can issue "hpux ls" and see what is in your /stand directory.this command lists out the contents of /stand directory even before you boot the system.Firstly...see whether you have any other kernel image in /stand..probably u might have "vmunix" word enbedded in its name,that is if intentionally it was named otherwise with different naming convention...

thanx to u all guys...i went by the kapil sugeestion and the server booted...the vmunix kernel was missing so i created a copy of vmunix.prev to vmunix...
