Server not responding

HP-UX 11.00 on N-class server. lately the system hangs. I am not able to reach the console from the gsp and I cannot telnet to the unit. I can ping the unit and get a icmp echo replys. Lights on unit do not show anything that seems suspicious. Have looked at syslog and check ioscan, but have not found anything questionable. Almost seems as if getty is unresponsive. Any ideas as to where I should look or any other logs I need to look into. I have no core dumpo since I had to force a reboot.

Re: Server not responding

Had an N box that was doing this as well. HP replaced the backplane and problem went away...

Re: Server not responding

Court,

If you can still access the GSP, then there should be tons of information thre that may help.

Send GSP Chassis and System logs to HP with your case.

Also, what's this server's history? Did this happen just suddenly? Do you keep track of performance ie. measureware or sar that you can graph, etc.?

Were there any changes lately?

Re: Server not responding

To see what the last console logs before the hang:

CTRL-B on the Console or telnet to the GSP port if your GSP is LAN connected. Then do a "CL" -- console log. This would show you whatever error/fault logs there may be.

To show the Chassis Logs:

From the same GSP prompt above.. do an "SL" ..

and submit output to HP...

Re: Server not responding

Just wanted to close this old thread. Ended up being that the DNS servers were changed and telnet was timing out trying to resolve DNS.
