Server stopped at BIB state

After rebootingthe Npar (shutdown -ry 0) it always got stuck at BIB state but we did not make any change to the Npar hardware . Evertime we have to reset the partition through the MP console RS command.
Can anyone tell me why this happens everytime to the Npar and solution for that.

Re: Server stopped at BIB state

first of all ,to be aware of what is BIB ?
(BIB) and is commonly referred to as Boot-Is-Blocked. BIB is designed to stop a cell from booting until all appropriate checks have been made to ensure that the cell is functioning properly.

one reason according to docs:
The cell has not passed its POST and has some hardware error. This is indicated by the letter E beside the cell number in the VFP. An investigation of the Chassis Logs (via the GSP SL command) would reveal any Error Logs.
Did you check the logs ?

Re: Server stopped at BIB state

besides, you can give a try with gsp command BO (manual boot) to pass this problem..

What model server do you have? What HP-UX version?

Re: Server stopped at BIB state

hi,

you shouldnt have to reset the MP to get it to boot, you could as ssaid just boot the partition from the MP with the boot command.

Its probably a configuration issue, unless it stops due to error? have you looked in the MP logs?

Re: Server stopped at BIB state

I guess if the " -B " was used as the time of 'parcreate' as this is a repetitive error.

Can this be a cause of this situation.

When using the parcreate command, we specify the -B option if we want the nPartition to be booted and become active. The -B option causes parcreate to immediately boot the newly-created nPartition past the default shutdown for reconfig state.

By not specifying -B, the new nPartition can be further modified because it will remain inactive at the shutdown for reconfig state (until you boot it using the BO command at the service processor Command Menu).
