Hi experts
I have been tasked to test M/C service gaurd on SAN, we are SAN manufacturing company competitors to EMC.
So my task would involve testing the SAN product with M/C service gaurd, prepare a test strategy to see if its failing over etc. I have experience with service gaurd but dont have any testing experience in SAN ie breaking the product.
Any ideas or suggestion about the steps methodolgy etc, I would really appreciate it.
Thnks
P.S. This thread has been moved from Storage Area Networks (SAN) (Enterprise) to HP-UX > Serviceguard. -HP Forum Moderator

Re: Service gaurd testing on SAN
The only usage of a SAN in the servive guard setup would be to share the storage LUNs to each of the servers in the cluster so that the required packages can start and ony of the nodes when required.
Once configured like this you can start configuring a cluster, If all the servers can access the LUNs indivisually, you should not have any problems in configuring the same.
What other testings you want to do for a SAN?

Re: Service gaurd testing on SAN
Thnks for the response. I am not exactly sure what tests I am supposed to be doing on the new SAN. As mentioned earlier, we are a storage company called 3par.com
I will be tasked with testing the service gaurd on their product before its released to the customer, so I have to come up with a test plan strategy, etc. Is there a way to automate the testing?
Thnks

SolutionServiceGuard relies on the underlying volume manager to provide path failover for storage, so you would need to test: PV Links which provides path failover for LVM, and DMP which provides path failover when using Veritas Volume Manager. I would start by reading the chapters 14-19 under the ITRC knowledge trees ( http://www2.itrc.hp.com/service/iv/node.do?node=prodITRC%2FWW_Start%2FN1%7C16 ) and taking a ServiceGuard course.
If the goal is to get 3par certified with MC/SG, then I suggest that you talk to the HP product manager for MC/SG...

Re: Service gaurd testing on SAN
Right now , we are looking for some internal testing with service guard, we havent come to the level of certification from HP.
I gathered some documents which Im attaching with this , pl let me know if it would be ok for testing service guard? Or my approach should be different?
Thnks in advance

Re: Service gaurd testing on SAN
This does not seems to be a good approach. Here you are testing a application rather than SAN. I would surely not prefer this approach. More than this much, we do at our level after configuring service guard over SAN.
I hope you will find some better documents.

Re: Service gaurd testing on SAN
I agree with you, but till now I wasnt able to find any more documents which would give me an insight how to test the service guard product. So I am lost at this point.
