Service guard and Oracle RAC
Hi all,
We are planning to have an Oracle RAC setup with MC Service guard. Need the following information.
1) Can we have mix two different hardware models in an RAC cluster with SG. ie can we have a cluster with a rp5470 and rp7410 as nodes ??
2) Is there any specific things to be taken care in the HPUX OS level. ??
Regards

Re: Service guard and Oracle RAC
RAC is load blanking between nodes. Once installed on one node then the oracle installer copies the software to the other nodes in the cluster. So there will be something akin to a client server relationship initially and you should verify this with Oracle.
From the O/S and Hardware level the RP7410 and RP5470 are still of the same hardware class so you can clone them with ignite make_tape_recovery tapes. I would recommend this step as being a part of your synchronization effort since one of the procedures for configuring a SG environment is to cross reference the number and type of patches on each and every node. The ignite cloning procedure makes this initial syncing up procedure easier.
If you're running Oracle OPS under Oracle RAC then there are some additional steps involved as this can get complicated. Start a new posting if you're using OPS, SG and RAC.
Other utilities to consider are:
ECM Toolkits product (B5139BA) (* Monitors Oracle Package *)
EMS for Service Guard (* HW monitor, i.e. how to handle the disk array failing *)

Re: Service guard and Oracle RAC
Hi,
1. u can have rp5470 and rp7410 in a cluster without any problem.
2. MCSG OPS is different for different OS's.
Otherwise there will not be any problem.

Re: Service guard and Oracle RAC
Hi
here are some quick answers
1.yes different models are supported
2. HP - Oracle alliance (www.hporaclectc.com) have issued a detailed white paper with the installation process. They said that it is available via Oracle TechNet as well but I can't find it there. If you have a support contract with HP ask your local support to propvide it to you. The exact name of the paper is : Oracle9i Real Application Clusters (RAC) on HP-UX.
Having installed RAC a few times on HPUX the only tricky parts are
1. HW used for the interconnect (for more than 2 nodes) usually you will go for GB Ethernet (HyperFabric is too expensive).
2. Raw device definition and handling
3. User (root & oracle) rcmd
enablement
Regards
Christos
