Service Guard Manager

Hi,

We have serviceguard configured on two nodes here, we have a primary and an adoptive node.

I would just like to know the opinions of service guard manager?

1) Is it really that resource intensive (I have read things)? I have itanium boxes on HP-UX 11.23 with 8gb installed.

2) We use CCMon but does service guard manager also monitor in the background? If so is it resource intensive even if the application is open?

3) Has anyone experienced any issues with serviceguard after installing it?

4) Would you install it on all nodes of the cluster?

Regards,

Chadders

ps - I downloaded it but I am just not sure whether to install it or not!

Re: Service Guard Manager

SGMGR is not really intensive, and does not have to be loaded on each server. Why not download the Windows or linux version and run it on your desktop pc?
That way you remove any concerns from having it on the servers.
My house is the bank's, my money the wife's, But my opinions belong to me, not HP!

Re: Service Guard Manager

Hi Melvyn,

You may not remember me but you installed our CCMon at Solaglas Coventry.

Anyway thanks for your response I did not realise you could do that! I will give it a go as I am a windows man and I always trundle my way through HP-UX.

I will assign points later.

Re: Service Guard Manager

I think I will have to run it direct on the servers anyway, my PC I think is on a different subnet or network. We can only connect to them due to a firewall rule, some sort of NAT is happening.

Anyway I will try and install on the main server as the windows version I downloaded failed to connect unfortunately.

Re: Service Guard Manager

Hi Chad,

I have installed SGMgr in HPUX (all nodes of the cluster):

B8325BA A.05.00 Serviceguard Manager

for operator packages operations: this is correct. For administration is better command line.

For download:

Re: Service Guard Manager

I ran SGMgr on a rx2620 (which has 4GB RAM & 2 1.3Ghz CPUs. There were 190 processes and 36 were running.

SGMgr was monitoring 2 clusters of 2 nodes.
The refresh cycle time is 2 minutes.
SGmgr uses java code and cmomd.
When refresh occurs, 'top' shows java using 1.36% of a CPU. When refresh was not occuring, java used .59% of a CPU usage.

cmomd CPU utilization went from .02% to .32% during refresh.

Re: Service Guard Manager

Thanks guys I have now installed this with your help and have assigned points. It seems to be working okay.

Can I change package IP addresses through this tool?

The configuration menu is greyed out for me.

also..

How can I run after logging in with root user straight away. Currently I have too type /opt/sgmgr/bin/sgmgr to run the application.

I have only currently installed it on the adoptive node, I will install on the primary node later as it is being heavily used.
