Service Guard; Quorum Server; install error

Dear Sirs;

I am trying to install Quorum Server software.

I used the command: $swinstall -s /home/sksonkar/B8467BA_A.02.00.00_HP-UX_B.11.00_32+64.depot

I got the below error:-

ERROR: The internal uncompress routine has detected corruption while
decompressing to file "/home/sksonkar/qs/usr/lbin/qsc" which
has compression type "gzip".
ERROR: tar:
/home/sksonkar/B8467BA_A.02.00.00_HP-UX_B.11.00_32+64.depot :
This doesn't look like a tar archive

Can anyone suggest what could be the reason?

Thanks,
Shiv

Re: Service Guard; Quorum Server; install error

When you downloaded the file and transferred it to your UNIX box, did you make sure that binary transfers were used? Did you verify the checksum's?
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Hi,

Agreed with Clay, looks like you install the software with corruption depot file (can be caused by the uncompleted file).

Please download with binary protocol and run the checksum to make sure the depot file is the completed one.

Re: Service Guard; Quorum Server; install error

Clay; I didn't verify checksums.
But i recalled and ftp'ed using binary and were able to install successfully. I recalled reading somewhere that on windows dos ftp by default is in ascii mode.

Thanks,
Shiv

Re: Service Guard; Quorum Server; install error

Wise admins never, ever assume anything about default behavior about FTP or anything else. They always assert modes explicitly because one never knows when defaults are "improved" (especially by Microsoft but often by Linux and sometimes even within the same flavor of UNIX).
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Clay; I will keep your word in my mind. I will never assume the default behavior.

Re: Service Guard; Quorum Server; install error

Hi Shiv,

Your depot is corrupted while downloading or transfering to a UNIX box. As Clay specified, always to a checksum before you start installing.

Re: Service Guard; Quorum Server; install error

Hi Shiv ,

From the error:

ERROR: The internal uncompress routine has detected corruption while
decompressing to file "/home/sksonkar/qs/usr/lbin/qsc" which
has compression type "gzip".
ERROR: tar:
/home/sksonkar/B8467BA_A.02.00.00_HP-UX_B.11.00_32+64.depot :
This doesn't look like a tar archive

it seems its a broken and corupted depot file, give a second try , good luck..

Cheers,
Raj.
