ServiceGuard installation

Hi all
I need to cluster an existing server with a new server we have just purchased, with a minimum amount of downtime.

As far as I am aware, simply installing the ServiceGuard software (along with any extensions, such as SAP) should not involve a reboot and will not affect anything running on the box. Am I correct in making this assumption?

Thanks!

Re: ServiceGuard installation

Hi,

Just installing serviceguard doesn't require a reboot.
But I advise also to install the patches, you find the release notes off your version on http://docs.hp.com

Re: ServiceGuard installation

In almost all cases (including a pre-installed brand-new box), MC/SG will require (or at least it is strongly reccomended) that patches (typically network related) be installed and these will require a reboot.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: ServiceGuard installation

Most PHKL and PHNE patches usually require a reboot.
But you can check if a patch in a depot has the reboot flag set by issueing something like this in advance

# swlist -l fileset -a is_reboot -s /path/to/depot PHNE_XXXX

or the pathche's readme will tell you if a reboot is required

# swlist -l fileset -a readme -s /path/to/depot PHNE_XXXX | more
